| Big Bob was one of my
first handmade rockets after I became a Born Again Rocketeer. Bob
is constructed of a holiday gift wrap cardboard tube1.5" in diameter.
The long swept back fins (4) are made of foam board. Recovery is
by 12" parachute. Nosecone is a block of balsa shaped to fit.
Launch:
I used a C5-3 Estes motor for the first launch.
Bob came off the launch rail nice and straight. There was a tiny
bit of weathervaning due to a light breeze, but the flight went well.
Chute deployed a tad early but there was no damage. Second flight
was on a C6-5 and was much better. Straight and high with a good
chute deployment at apogee. Although Big Bob is ugly and quite rough,
it flies well and will continue to be part of my stable until such time
as he dies a natural death.
