Mean Machine
"Vomit Comet"
My Mean Machine is painted a horrific combination of purple and yellow, hence the nickname.  The photo at left is not the real paint scheme.  I bought this one because it's a huge rocket by model rocket standards.  Size does matter.  It's a nice kit, and if you don't want it quite so big, just don't use all the included body tubes.  Be careful handling it, however, as it tends to get stuck in doors and generally be a pain in the patoot to move around the house.

Launch:  Flight was awesome on a D12-3.  SLOW lift and perfect deployment of the chute.  A real crowd pleaser.  I highly recommend this kit.  Now with the new E size engines being marketed (again) this kit could become a true performer.

Update (10/10/01):  Having managed to crunch the body tube in my van door, I reconstructed the Vomit Comet by cutting out the damaged section and using that bit to build a deployment charge baffle system.  I then put it all back together again and intend to fly it soon.  Although the rocket is now some 8 inches shorter
I look forward to not having to deal with recovery wadding anymore.

Update: (10/14/01):  Flew the Vomit Comet today to test the baffle system.  Outstanding.  There was a bit of wind that caused a heart thumping flight but the baffle system did exactly what it was supposed to, protecting the chute very well.
