Mercury Redstone
"Liberty Bell"
The Mercury Redstone is one of the nicer Estes kits out there.  Although the scale features are a bit weak if you're considering serious competition, it's still a fine looking and flying rocket. I love the impressive size and historic look of this rocket.  It will remain one of my favorites for a very long time.  Now if we could just talk them into producing an Atlas and Titan to match......

Launch:  I was a little apprehensive during the first flight of this rocket.  Recommended engine was a B6-4.  Do not...I repeat....Do NOT launch this rocket on a B6-4.  You would consider yourself lucky if the ejection charge activated 10 feet from the ground.   I recommend C6-5 or C5-3 only.  If your ambitious, modify the mount to accept a D12 or (hehehe) a big E engine.  Now that would be something!  Flight on the C size engines is not very high but it is impressive and very gentle.  Recoveries have been perfect on 2 parachutes (one for capsule, one for main booster).
