Vostok

Vostok was created entirely by hand.  The body tube is handmade by wrapping craft paper around PVC pipe, all the shrouds and booster strap-ons are made of thick paper.  The nosecone was turned on a lathe then hollowed out to save weight.  Four tiny balsa fins keep it going straight.  The CG on this one is just about at the tip of the strap-ons.  It is not truly scale as the strap-ons are about 20% too small and the interstage lattice work is just painted on.  I am very happy with it and plan to create several more Russian rocket replicas soon.

Launch:

First launch was with a C5-3.  The rocket lifted nicely and flew straight and true.  I had my doubts based on my prior experiences with the Soyuzeless model I had created earlier.  The chute deployed on time and the rocket came down very close to the launcher.  Descent was rather fast, so I may need to put a bit more chute in there.  Additional flights were made on a C6-5 (very nice) and a B6-4 (okay but not the best).
